Designed by renowned ribbon microphone specialists Jerry Silvia and David Browning, the RM-5C is physically inspired by the classic RCA BK5, but is not a copy. Using the original microphone as a starting point, the team at Silvia Classics has both esthetically and technically updated the older ribbon design.
Telefunken says that this microphone represents a technical breakthrough in ribbon microphone construction. They say that by utilizing cutting edge magnetic materials, and innovative acoustic design, the output characteristics of the RM-5C is better suited to modern recording techniques than any previous ribbon microphone.
A highly directional cardioid pickup pattern, appreciably improved output level, and wider frequency response is achieved through optimal acoustic design and use of cutting edge magnetic materials. The result is a frequency response from 30 to 18,000 Hz, and an output impedance that matches well with any high quality microphone preamplifier.
